Network Engineer – Cyber Security

  • 6 Month contract with view to extend

Job Description:

Position responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the identification of security engineering approaches to address organisational security objectives, in line with the Cyber Security Strategy and supporting security standards
  • Champion and lead the communication of the value of cyber security throughout all levels of the organization and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to ensure appropriate security controls are applied to non-production and production systems, in accordance with security architecture reference models, designs and security baselines
  • Partner with operational personnel to deploy vulnerability mitigations on IT systems
  • Engagement with Program and Project stakeholders to ensure security requirements are met and all cyber security products meet security baselines and standards and operational assurance standards before delivery into production
  • Work with architecture and engineering teams to determine the security requirements for ICT projects
  • Plan and manage the conduct of security testing for ICT products and solutions
  • Conduct Risk Assessments of current and future ICT inhouse or third party externally developed projects including threat modelling
  • Support the cyber risk governance processes to provide ICT security risks, mitigations, and input on other technical risks, including managing the monitoring of compliance against the security standards
  • Provide insights and interpretation of patterns and indicators of noncompliance to the Cyber Security
  • Manager in order determine their impact on levels of risk and/or overall effectiveness of client’s cybersecurity posture

QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENCES AND AUTHORISATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor of Electrical/Mechanical/Computer Engineering or similar or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.
  • Demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Information/Cyber Security highly regarded
  • Relevant industry Cyber Security Certifications.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in Cyber Security
  • Understanding of security engineering principles, cyber threats, risks
  • Knowledge of relevant information security frameworks and standards to the Critical Infrastructure Sector
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of current and emerging technologies and assessment of their relevance and potential value and risk to the organisation
  • Experience in Windows and Linux environments is an advantage
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail
  • the ability to view current processes and procedures as opportunities for enhancement, tuning and improvement.
  • Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking capabilities
  • Ability to create and work in virtual teams to solve business issues

As a Network Engineer

  • Understanding and application of security architecture, network security (secure LAN, WAN, VLAN, MPLS, and secure network zoning and restricted network design) and database, operating system and application security.
  • Understanding of Network and communication protocols common in corporate environments
  • strong understanding of Firewalls (Check Point, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA)
  • Good understanding of IP networking and Internet technologies, in either Cisco or other switch & routing platforms. CCNP or CCIE would be an advantage
  • Experience of designing networks for deployment in Cloud environments such as Azure or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of Network Based IDS and Host Based IDS and WAF deployment
  • Understanding of network security monitoring and traffic analysis for suspicious behaviour
