SECURITY DESIGNER

This role is required to deliver Security Design functions (provide Security Design Consulting, complete Security Infrastructure Design documents, Security Detailed Design Documents, Design Work requests, asset impact assessments, provide direction on test and certification requirements) to client projects. These inputs are required for the allocated Engineer to complete their build activities. Current project demand means many projects (SDN, NAC, CASB) are being delayed due to a shortage of Security Designers.

JOB PUPOSE:

To provide technical advice and expertise, to support delivery of technology-based services incorporating, design, development, delivery and maintenance of technological solutions to meet business needs, including (but not limited to) security firewalls, proxy, IPS and cryptographic devices. This includes defining technical designs and solutions for multiple complex technology systems, and to provide support, guidance and direction for more junior team members.

Responsibilities:

  • (40%) Provide design and planning related services to support, guide and assure the design of complex technical solutions and provide technical input to design specifications that meet business requirements and are in line with agreed strategies and directions, and security risk appetite
  • (25%) Contribute to project related activities and meetings to support delivery of project objectives and scope and provide consultative guidance on their execution, and assist with the coordination of technical/testing team members to ensure timely specification, testing, and implementation of quality systems
  • (10%) Contribute to the creation of technical roadmaps related to security technology platforms
  • (15%) Contribute to problem diagnosis and technical expertise to develop options and solutions to specific problems that are technical in nature, related to existing issues, or complex technology changes proposed, and coordinate resolution with vendors and partners
  • (10%) Provide coaching and guidance to technical specialists to support their competency development and ensure their effective contribution to team objectives
  • Some decision making with regards to System design, implementation approach and testing plans, and directing resources on work tasks

Qualification and experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Technology environment, with a developed awareness of best practice knowledge in the specific area of technical expertise
  • 2-3 years of analysis and design experience on complex projects
  • Proven security design and implementation experience, including formal documentation of build, support and operational processes
  • Role holder will possess high levels of Technology expertise, combined with sufficient business knowledge and vision to enable effective production of well targeted technical solutions
  • Understanding of risk management concepts
  • Exposure to operational and technical risk assessments
  • Ability to rapidly learn new concepts and to think outside the square
  • Experience across the software development life-cycle, including high-level estimation and business case development
  • Systems integration experience in complex legacy environments involving mainframe transaction processing, web delivery, message integration and data warehousing components
  • Working within, and contributing towards, Enterprise Architecture guidelines and standards
  • Development and deployment experience on more than one platform

  • Ensuring that system solutions that meet business needs are delivered on time and within agreed costs
  • Ensuring that delivery of systems solutions and change do not interfere with “business- as-usual” operation of systems
  • Balancing the provision of high quality technical service and problem resolution within tight time frames
  • Balancing outcomes of research initiatives that identify “best practice” solutions, with capability to implement within agreed budgets and time frames
  • Balancing the implementation of high quality technical developments with cost considerations
